Word lists show us which words belong to a special group. Maybe it’s all the terms in a closed lexical category (or ‘part of speech’), or maybe it’s words that apply to a certain feature of a grammar topic. Here you can find broadly-applicable groups like Prepositions or Irregular Verbs more specific groups like Reporting Verbs or Verbs for Verb Patterns.
But these aren’t merely lists of alphabetically-sorted terms; rather they can be viewed in tables. Each word also belongs to one or more categories, and some come with notes. This helps teachers and learners break these groups into even smaller groups. And since these tables are interactive, users can organize them in different ways to find specific terms or to sort all the terms in a way that makes sense to them! When English learners can view word lists in ways that match their mindsets, it’s easier for them to comprehend – or even memorize – which words belong in the list!
